FAQs and Specifications

Please look below for answers to Frequently Asked Questions (including some of our products’ specifications).

Q: Who will install my roof?

A: Haxby Fibreglass Roofs trained fitters install the Topseal GRP flat roof systems, we do not use subcontractors, only fully trained and Topseal approved fitters will carry out the work! You can confirm our companies credentials with the installer verification box on the Topseal homepage (www.topseal.co.uk) or alternatively give Topseal Systems Ltd customer service team a call on 01423 886495

Q: What Topseal system should I specify for my application?

A: Generally, the standard system is suitable for all applications except where the substrate will be subject to heavy foot traffic or be used for water containment applications such as ponds or pools. You will be advised on site by our surveyor which system will best suit your application, we normally recommend the GRP four layered system.

Q: Is Topseal fire retardant?

A: Yes! Topseal is fire retardant to BS 476 part 3 and designated EXT.F.AA (double A rated.) the highest rating available for any flat roofing system.

Q: Does Topseal Roofing Systems have BBA approval and what does it stand for?

A:Yes, the British Board of Agrément (BBA) is an organisation partnered with Government, whose Governing Board includes representation on behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. The BBA provides authoritative and independent information on the performance of building products. Assessment involves three distinct areas; laboratory testing, site inspections undertaken by the BBA’s own Inspection Services team and factory production control. The British Board of Agrément Certificate (can be viewed at www.bbacerts.co.uk (no.93/2932)) guarantees that each Topseal installation can only be completed by trained and approved contractors and that every Topseal branded material must undergo constant quality control checks and be traceable right back to manufacture.

Q: How much will a new roof installation cost?

A: We price every job individually and our quote is based on a cost per sq metre. Before we start any work you will be given a verbal – total all-inclusive price, followed by a detailed written quote.

Q: How long does it take to install a GRP Roof?

A: Each job varies depending on its size, a typical double sized garage of circa 30sq/m2 could be completed in a day, and however, as a guide most are fitted over a two day period.

Q: How long does a roof take to ‘dry’? What if it rains?

A:The roof normally cures within an hour or so of being laid. It is laid in two stages; the main laminate and the topcoat. Either layer can be stopped at any time and covered over to be continued when the weather is next suitable.

Q: What is our lead time and can you fit a roof immediately?

A: We’ll try and make your roof temporarily watertight as soon as you’ve ordered a roof from us. All jobs are booked in strict rotation and customers kept informed of their position on our waiting list by our surveyor.

Q: Does your installation team tidy up after the roof has been fitted and do you use skips?

A: Yes, your premises will be left as we find it, all debris is swept and site tidied before we go, leaving you with a tidy job and not knowing we have been on site.

We don’t use skips, so as to protect and preserve your driveway! – we always use a 2.5 ton double axel trailer ensuring that rubbish is removed at the end of each day and that you always have access to your driveway overnight !

Q: Can you fit replacement gutters, down pipes and new fascia panels?

A: We can install new guttering, down pipe and fascia panels where required. You will be notified during a site survey on the condition of existing panels and guttering and asked for your preferred option, this will again be confirmed in written quote.

Q: Do we need to empty the room below the roof you’ll be installing?

A: We’ll assess it in the site survey and advise what needs to be protected or moved before any work is started.

Q: Does your Topseal system roof come with a product guarantee and workmanship guarantee?

A: Yes, 20 to 30 year Topseal manufacturer guarantee depending on the application chosen by client (Ask our surveyor for more details or see the Topseal website for more detail).

Haxby Fibreglass Roofs Ltd guarantees that, if within a period of thirty years (from date of installation), the installation proves to be defective by reason of a fault in the installation or fixing procedure resulting in a leak arising in the installation, the installer undertakes to repair that section of the roof free of charge.

Q:What if I decide to sell my home, will the guarantee be transferable?

A:We are confident that our roofs will last well in excess of the guaranteed period and are happy to transfer the guarantee with the sale of the property. Please let us know if you decide to transfer your guarantee so we can update our records.
